Exploration Arts was founded in 1987, in response to the many requests I had received for artworks with an oil patch and western theme. Since that time I have successfully published and sold limited edition artworks by respected artists Karl E. Wood, Roland Gissing, Merv Brandel, G. Harvey, and many others. My customers range from small companies to large corporations, from rig hands to C.E.O’s. For 20 years I have provided my clients with first quality artworks that are expertly framed and affordably priced.

This web site currently showcases 7 beautifully framed oil patch artworks. The first four are classic Alberta scenes that are only available exclusively from Exploration Arts, while the last three images include a rare selection of limited editions, that are almost sold out.

Each individual artwork is completed with the finest selection of museum quality materials and richly coloured solid wood mouldings. With over 30 years of experience, I design each mat and frame combination to ensure that your selection will match beautifully with both home and office decor. The Alberta Legacy Series

This collection of three limited edition prints represent a historical and artistic cross-section of the best oil patch artworks ever produced in Alberta. All three artworks are exclusive to Exploration Arts and are not available elsewhere.

For our 22nd Anniversary this collection is now available unframed. At only $975, this affords you the opportunity to acquire the complete collection and frame them or present them as gifts, as you require.

For those collectors who enjoy acquiring something extra special, there are a very limited number of complete sets of three with matching numbers, as well as a limited number of matching pairs of "Alberta Gold" and "Early Oil in Alberta". Individual artworks from this collection may also be purchased.

"Early Oil In Alberta" by Roland Gissing (1895-1967)

"Early Oil in Alberta" captures the history of days gone by... with an old style drilling rig set up in a freshly "stooked" grain field, in the foothills of Southern Alberta. The original artwork was completed during the 1950's in the prime of Mr. Gissings career, and this limited edition print is the first oil patch artwork ever produced from his illustrious career. "Early Oil in Alberta" is well suited for both home and office decor and would make a great companion with "Alberta Gold".

"Western Vision" by Karl E. Wood (1944-1990)

"Western Vision" was the third and final edition from "The Alberta Rig Series". In this artwork, Karl skillfully painted an early winter scene with a lone elk feeding along the Ghost River, west of Cochrane. A drilling rig stands next the rivers edge, with the foothills and the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop. This portrayal of our western heritage, with its abundance of wildlife and natural resources was Karl's vision of the two co-existing peacefully together. "Western Vision" is well suited for both home and office decor, and would make a great triple set with "Alberta Gold" and "Early Oil in Alberta".

"Alberta Gold" by Merv Brandel

"Alberta Gold" salutes the spirit of the Oil & Gas Industry, combined with the beauty and history of Alberta. This artwork depicts a warm autumn day with a single pump jack overlooking an old ranch homestead, nestled in the the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. "Alberta Gold" is well suited for both home and office decor and would make a great pair with " Early Oil in Alberta".

The Commemorative Canvas Edition

"Alberta Heritage" by Karl E. Wood was painted as a Tribute to Our Western Culture and the Oil and Gas Industry in Alberta. Commissioned by the owner of a Mercedes Benz dealership in Calgary, Karl took over 3 weeks to complete the original oil painting.

This commemorative edition was in production for over nine months, to achieve my standards of art quality and excellence. It includes my own personal design of a gold foil security seal, which highlights each edition type and limited edition number.

Each artwork is then expertly printed and mounted on canvas using the highest standards of materials and craftmanship available. This ensures that each image is as vibrant and detailed as the original oil painting.

"Black Gold" by Andy Thomas

"Black Gold" depicts the earliest days of oil well drilling, when rigs were powered by steam, with drill pipe and equipment delivered by horse drawn wagons. With the foreground in the shadows, and the wooden derricks in the sunlight, this richly colored artwork would be well suited for all types of decor.

"A Different Kind of Lease" by G. Harvey

"A Different kind of Lease" portrays the early days of the Texas oil boom - a time of change for the cowboys and ranchers who sometimes had to make way for the new era of oil. This artwork makes a strong statement with its vibrant colours and would be well suited for VP offices and richly colored home decor.

"Texas Cowboys" by G. Harvey

"Texas Cowboys" captures the earliest days of the North American oil patch, and is reminiscent of the Western history, wooden derricks and rolling foothills of the Turner Valley and Black Diamond oil boom, in the early 1900's. This large dramatic artwork is well suited for reception areas, and board rooms and would make a bold statement on a feature wall in a private home.
